Sound of Heaven TV | Words Week 1: Tselem (Image) EP01

We kick off our new series, Words, by going back to the original language of one of the most quoted verses in the Bible. Genesis 1:27 says God created humanity in his image. The Hebrew word is tselem, the same word used for statues and idols.

In the ancient world, a king placed his statue across his land to say, "This ground is mine. My rule reaches here." God did the same thing. He placed you on the earth as his living, breathing representative. You don't just bear God's image. You are his image.

That changes how we see the second commandment, how we see the person we can't stand, the person on the street corner, and the person in the mirror. It also shows us a God who walked through the covenant for us and still pursues us today.
