Sound of Heaven TV | Words Week 5: Hesed (Covenant Love) EP05

Does God's love have a limit?

Most of us have heard someone say "I'm not going anywhere," and then watched them leave. After enough of that, we start wondering if God works the same way. What happens when I keep messing up? When is enough enough?

The answer is a Hebrew word with no English equal: hesed. Translators have tried mercy, loving kindness, steadfast love and loyalty, but none of them capture it fully. Hesed is a covenant love that refuses to let go even when the other party breaks the covenant.

In this episode we see hesed in Exodus 34, where right after the golden calf God names Himself abounding in hesed. We see it in Hosea buying back an unfaithful wife, in Ruth refusing to walk away from Naomi, and in Psalm 136, where Israel sang "His steadfast love endures forever" twenty-six times so they would never forget it.

God can be grieved by your failure and still refuse to be done with you. His commitment is bigger than the damage. His hesed doesn't run out when you do.
