Sound of Heaven TV | Words Week 6: Berith (Covenant) EP06
What happens when a promise costs more than you planned to pay?
Every promise eventually reaches that moment. That's where most of them end. But this Palm Sunday message looks at a covenant that was built to hold.
The Hebrew word for covenant is berith, and it comes from a word that means "to cut." In the ancient world, two parties made a covenant by cutting animals in half and walking between the pieces together, saying with their lives: if I break this, let it happen to me.
In Genesis 15, God tells Abraham to prepare that path. Then God puts Abraham into a deep sleep and walks through the pieces alone, as a smoking fire pot and a flaming torch. God signed both sides. If I break it, let it fall on me. If you break it, let it fall on me too.
That is why Jesus rode into Jerusalem on a donkey, exactly as Zechariah 9:9 said. He wasn't coming to show off. He was coming to pay what was already signed. You weren't even awake when God signed it, and nothing you've done can outpace what He already agreed to pay.
