Sound of Heaven TV | Look Again Week 3: The Women Who Had No Business Being in the Story EP13
Most of us learned the felt board version of Rahab. She hides the spies, hangs a red rope, God saves her, cool story. But in week three of Look Again, Apostle Johnny Ova slows the story down. Rahab was a Canaanite, from the people at the top of Israel's enemy list. The Hebrew calls her zonah, a prostitute, and the text does not clean it up. She lived in the wall of a city about to fall. By every religious standard of her day, she was the last person God would have anything to do with.
The whole city heard the same reports about the God of Israel, and the whole city responded with fear. Rahab heard the same thing and said, "The Lord your God, He is God." Faith is not about having better information. It is about what you do with what you have heard. She asks for hesed, covenant love, and hangs a scarlet cord in her window. The Hebrew word is tikvah, the same word translated hope. Like the blood on the doorposts in Egypt, judgment passes over the house marked in scarlet.
Then Matthew 1 names her in the family line of King David and of Jesus. Hebrews 11 and James 2 still call her Rahab the prostitute, because her past is the point. God did not wait for her to get her life together. He sent for her and brought her home. You belong before you believe. If she is not disqualified, neither are you.
