What is a Supernatural Life?  Identity

“It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.” — Galatians 5:1

Today we are exploring what it means to live a supernatural life of Identity by being set free from religious bondage. Galatians 5:1 speaks powerfully to this: Christ has set us free, and we must stand firm in that freedom, resisting the yoke of slavery that religion and law so easily put upon us. The bondage of religion tries to convince us that we are separate from God, that we must earn His favor, and that our behavior determines our identity.

But we are one with the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. 1 John 4:17 declares that “As He is, so I am in this world,” and 2 Peter reminds us that we have been given everything we need for life and godliness. This is our identity: living in perfect union with God, free from bondage, and living as Christ in the world.

Remembering Our True Identity

In last week’s article, we spoke about our true identity as the Bride of Christ — how understanding who we are in Him transforms the way we think, act, feel, and ultimately, who we are. Recognizing ourselves as the bride changes everything. This is a quick reminder of the foundation we laid, as we dive deeper today into how religion and the law can distort this identity.

So, who are you? What do you believe about yourself based on your religious experiences? And, more importantly, how do you let go of false beliefs and walk in the freedom of your true identity?

The Opinions That Shape Identity

Identity through the lens of – I am a Sinner

In the Greek, the word for sin is “hamartia,” meaning “missing the mark.” The Hebrew understanding is “falling short.” When I viewed sin in my life, I thought God was somewhere over there, and I was trying to reach Him. But I was doing this from a place of a distorted identity, believing that I had to perform to please God.

Religion reinforced this belief. It focused on behavior, sending the message that we had to manage our sins and do more to reach God. The result was constant guilt, self-condemnation, and the belief that I was never good enough.  So, how do we get out of that vicious cycle of performance based religion?

The Sin Solution: Finding Your True Identity

So, what is the solution to sin? It’s not behavior management or striving harder. The solution to sin is remembering your true identity: As He is, so are you in this world. You don’t have to do anything to be who you already are. You are not under the law; you are under grace.

In Romans 6:14, Paul says, “For sin shall not have dominion over you, for you are not under law but under grace.” You are not under the Old Covenant, which demanded performance; you are living in the New Covenant, which is about grace and union with God.

Romans 8:1 tells us there is “no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus.” You have been made new. The old has passed away, and the new has come. You are no longer bound to a distorted identity but you are a life-giving spirit, one with Christ.

Sin Solution

  • Not under the Law (the 10)
  • Not under Old Covenant
  • Not under Adam
  • Not under Guilt or Condemnation
  • Not under Performance Based
  • Not under Fear
  • Not under Sin Nature

The “In Solution”: Living in Your True Identity

The “sin solution” moves you to the “in solution.” You are in Christ, in freedom, in love, in righteousness, and in the law of the Spirit. Romans 8:2 declares, “For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has set you free from the law of sin and death.”

The result of knowing who you are in Christ is a life of peace, love, and rest. You are no longer striving to earn God’s love or forgiveness; you are resting in the truth that you already have it.

In Solution

  • In Law of the Spirit (Love)
  • In New Covenant
  • In Christ
  • In Freedom
  • In Life Giving Spirit
  • In Love
  • In Righteousness

Identity Through the Eyes of Others
Our identity is often wrapped up in our upbringing — the beliefs of our parents, the expectations of our friends, and the messages society gives us. These voices shape our self-perception, creating limiting beliefs and fears that hold us back. But as Linda has shared, breaking free from those limiting beliefs allows for transformation: “I used to be so full of fear and negativity, but as I began to change my thoughts, I found so much more peace, love, and joy.”

This freedom comes from understanding who we are in God’s eyes, not through the distorted lens of fear, guilt, and performance.

Supernatural Identity

Identity Through God’s Eyes

The key to living in our true identity is understanding how God sees us. Many of us have viewed God as judgmental, far-off, and hard to please. But in truth, God sees us as fully accepted, fully loved, and in perfect union with Him. God’s opinion of you is far greater than the opinions you’ve formed through religion or the world. He sees you as blameless, whole, and one with Christ.

Linda shared how transformative this realization has been for her: “I once thought I was unaccepted and unloved. But now I know that I am fully accepted and loved unconditionally by God.”

Identity Through Jesus Eyes

The life of Jesus is the perfect reflection of who God is. Jesus said, “If you have seen Me, you have seen the Father.” He is the clearest interpretation of God — living out perfect love, compassion, mercy, and acceptance. There is no separation between God and Jesus, and there is no separation between God and you.  Just as Jesus revealed God’s heart, we are called to reveal the heart of Christ within us.

We find our identity in Christ, who mirrors to us our true self. When we see Jesus, we see who we are called to be — one with God, living in love and grace.

You Have the Power to Choose

When it comes to identity, the choice is yours. You have the power to choose which identity you will believe in and live from — the identity shaped by religion, fear, and guilt, or the identity shaped by God’s truth, love, and grace.  By the way, Gods opinion of you never changes.  Your opinion of you always changes.  I would encourage you to choose God’s opinion.

Let me say this clearly: You are loved, you are chosen before the foundation of the world, you are holy and blameless in God’s sight. You are the Bride of Christ, adorned in His love, walking in freedom. 1 John 4:17 declares, “As He is, so are you in this world.” You are one with Christ. There is no separation.

Your belief or disbelief does NOT change these facts about how God sees you.  You may as well agree with God and live from what I call the100foldjourney

Welcome to your new identity. You’ve been set free, start embracing that freedom, breaking down the false beliefs that hold you back, and stepping fully into who God created you to be.

Let me end with this.

Remember back to the Garden, when Adam and Eve ate from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. In their shame and fear, they hid themselves from God. But here’s the truth: God never separated Himself from them. There was no wall between God and humanity; there was only the wall that Adam and Eve built in their minds. They hid, but God came looking for them. He called out, “Where are you?”

When they finally emerged, they told God they were hiding because they were naked. And God’s response was not anger or condemnation. It was a question: “Who told you that you were naked?” In other words, Who told you that you were not enough? Who told you that you were a sinner? Who told you that I was angry at you? God never said those things.

So, I ask you — what other voices are you listening to besides His? The voices of religion, shame, guilt, or condemnation? Stop it.

God is saying to you right now, “You are my bride. I love you unconditionally. Let me love you. Stop pushing away from Me, hiding from Me, or trying to earn My approval. I knew you before the foundation of the world. I know who you truly are — perfectly loved, accepted, and whole. Now, rest from your striving and performance. Stop trying to prove yourself. I just want to have a loving relationship with you.”

Amen.
